Everybody Loves a ’60s Style Icon!

Actress and singer Gwyneth Paltrow recently got all dolled up as a few of the hottest female fashion icons from the ’60s to the ’80s for Max Factor’s “100 Years of Glamour” ad campaign.

As the ol’ saying goes, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” Well, this photo shoot — which also had Paltrow strutting her stuff as French beauty Brigitte Bardot — has made some folks (myself included!) wonder:  Why do so many stars love to imitate ’60s style icons like our alluring girl Audrey Hepburn?

Those of us that love Ms. Hepburn applaud her as a timeless beauty, award-winning actress, humanitarian, and forward-thinking fashion role model. Her director in Roman Holiday once said, about her “je ne sais quoi,” “After so many drive-in waitresses becoming movie stars there has been this real drought… [Then] along comes class, somebody who actually went to school, can spell, maybe even plays the piano.”

And there have been plenty of leading ladies that have paid homage to her charm in films and photo shoots. Even now, so many years after her death, our fascination with all things Audrey knows no bounds!

Singer and actress Jennifer Love Hewitt played her in 2000’s The Audrey Hepburn Story. She struck that classic ’60s pose again in the summer of 2012 for Miami Living Magazine.

The next generation of Hollywood hotties is also getting in on the action. A few years ago, music legend Phil Collins’ daughter, young actress Lily Collins recreated some favorite photos of Hepburn forTatler magazine.

Of course, Audrey isn’t the only glamorous ’60s gal whose style has stuck. Who hasn’t tried on some Marilyn Monroe pizzazz?

Then there’s the divinely stylish former first lady, Jackie-O. Her elegance and grace under pressure combined with a heaping helping of girl-next-door charm instantly endeared her to the world and continues to inspire women and high-end designers worldwide. There are few women who have NOT tried to rock replicas of her smart and sassy Oleg Cassini suits, dresses, and Halston pillbox hats.

Why is it that everyone loves remaking these glamorous and stylin’ 1960s looks so much? As an aficionado of this decade myself, I know playing dress-up for me is about glamour, fun … and celebrating those lovely ladies who weren’t afraid to express themselves!

What about the many other swingin’ ’60s fashionistas I’ve not mentioned above? Let’s share the best below!

As Always,
