The Sombrero, a gay disco on Kensington High-Street, was the place to be if you were a cutting edge rock star like David already was.
Shortly after Suzi dyed his hair red, Bowie dropped by The Sombrero and the hipsters and the queens and the trend-setters went wild.
A few weeks later, David shot the Ziggy Stardust cover and the rest, as they say, is history.
Not only did Suzi become David’s hair stylist, but she also became the hair stylist and wardrobe assistant for David’s entire band, which included a bloke from Yorkshire named Mick Ronson.
Suzi and Mick fell in love and married five years later in 1977, shortly after Bowie’s band broke up. Wth their one-year old daughter in tow, Mick and Suzi moved to Woodstock, in upstate New York, a place they deemed suitable to raise a child while keeping them in proximity of colleagues like Todd Rundgren, Meat Loaf, Bob Dylan, and Janis Joplin.
Mick had always produced, in addition to playing and arranging. Among the many bands he assisted around this time was a fresh Canadian group, The Payolas, featuring one Robert Jens Rock —aka Bob Rock— on guitar.
This story is wild!! And it keeps getting wilder!!!!!!!! Ziggy Stardust is a crazy album made by a incredible genius. LOVE IT!!!!
